Should I take the SAT again within my Senior Year?
- Yes! Colleges want to see that students have taken the exam more than once. It is strongly recommended for you to take the exam once in your Junior year and at the beginning of your Senior year. By taking the exam again, colleges will have the opportunity to Super Score your exams (taking the highest sections of both exams and that will be your overall score).
When I register for the SAT Exam should I have my scores automatically sent to the colleges?
-
- No, we recommend for all of our students to first view the scores themselves before sending it to the college.
How much does it cost to send our SAT scores to the colleges?
- It will cost approximately $12 per college. However, if you received a fee waiver your scores will be sent to each college for free.
For the Common Application, do I need to invite my School Counselor to my application?
- Yes, your School Counselor should be invited. (There is a link within your application to invite your School Counselor). There is a required document that must be completed by your School Counselor.
Do I send my own college recommendation letters?
- No, all recommendation letters must be uploaded or mailed to the institution/application system requesting this letter on your behalf.
How will my teachers send my College Recommendation Letters?
- When you are completing your college application on the CUNY and/or Common App, within the application you will be asked to provide the e-mail address of your recommenders.
Should I have my School Counselor review my college applications before submitting the applications?
- Yes, it is strongly recommended for you to have your School Counselor review your application. She will be able to provide you with advice on your application and make any necessary suggestions.
What college application system should I use when applying to colleges?
- There are many ways to apply to college such as:
-
-
-
You can apply directly on the college website. Sometimes colleges offer free applications or may provide you with a fee waiver when you apply on their website.
-
You MUST use the CUNY application when you are applying to any CUNY college. This college application allows you to apply to 6 colleges for $65. If you are eligible for a fee waiver you can use it on the application as well (see your School Counselor for CUNY fee waivers).
-
If you are interested in applying to State Universities (SUNY) then you can use their application system and/or Common App. If you are going to use the SUNY fee waiver, I would recommend you applying on the SUNY application system.
-
If you were not approved for a SUNY fee waiver, the Common Application would be a better option, especially if you are applying to private colleges.
-
-
If you are a student considering applying to HBCUs, the Common Black Application is another college application system. You can apply to historically black colleges and universities at the same time. Before using this system, double check if the college you are considering accepts this application.
